Few cars have gripped drivers as instantly as the GTI. Considering it has both defined and redefined the hot hatch for over 30 years, it’s no wonder. Fast-forward to today, and we’ve made this sporty GTI lower, wider, and faster than before. Something you’ll get used to pretty quickly.
That’s the Power of German Engineering.
The 200hp 2.0L TSI engine has some serious torque per cylinder. Which means it’s tuned to have a broad, flat torque curve with a nice, wide power band. If you’re not sure what that means, step on the gas when the light turns green for a beautifully succinct definition.
Corners. They’re red meat for GTI drivers. But sometimes a corner can get the best of you, no matter how good your driving skills are. XDS (Cross Differential System) puts the control back in cornering by anticipating wheel spin and actively directing power to the outside wheel. Better handling. Better acceleration. Better cornering. Better late-night fast food runs.
It can be hard to give up driving stick. But the available 6-speed DSG automatic transmission delivers imperceptibly fast gear changes. And the sleek little paddle shifters put the control back into your hands. So when you clim behind the wheel, it’s really less about giving something up, and much more about what you’ve gained.
Turbo is that boost of power that makes you glad you’re sitting in a sport seat. It’s marked by the distinct hum you hear kick in as you pass the car next to you, and it’s caused by an extra push of air into the engine. In engineering, that’s called “forced induction.” In your GTI, that’s called “See you later.”*
*Always obey local speed and traffic laws.
The sport seats come standard with traditional and oh-so-cool red, white and black plaid "Interlagos" covers. (For non-traditionalists, leather seats are optional.) The extremely supportive seats feature an integrated yet adjustable headrest, which is replete with the GTI logo.
Sport Steering Wheel
Okay, so it’s a steering wheel. But it’s not just any steering wheel. This one’s sporty, with smooth leather and hot red stitching. It’s also flat on the bottom, just like a racecar steering wheel. Granted, a GTI has more room than a racecar, so it doesn’t have to be flat. But it looks cool. And it feels cool. And sometimes that’s enough.
We all like having the latest technologies. That’s why we gave the GTI available fathers like an all-new touchscreen navigation system, so that hidden getaway you’re looking for no longer has to be so hidden. If you want concert-quality sound, just turn up the dial on the available Dynaudio Premium Audio System.
Life is unpredictable. That’s why the GTI was built to perform in more ways than one with features like our signature Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS) and advanced cage. Along with the latest technologies like an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. As impressive as these systems are, we hope it’s one performance you never have to see.
The optional Bi-Xenon headlight system illuminates the road ahead with bright, clear light. So things you need to avoid are lit up; and avoided.
